designism 2.0: un evento en 3 partes (see-talk-act)

Y Sin Embargo magazine estará presente en Designism 2.0, el evento. Matías Delfino lo cubrirá desde New York.

The Backstory of Designism 2.0: An Event in 3 Parts: SEE:: TALK:: ACT

WHAT/WHEN/WHERE:
December 13, 2007. 4:45-9:30 pm @ADC Gallery, New York.
The ADC invites those interested in how design and advertising can be used
for the public good to join Designism 2.0: An Event in 3 Parts:
SEE::TALK::ACT. This includes the unique opportunity to hook up with some
organizations that need visual communication professionals help to make the
change.

WHY:
In 2006, the Art Directors Club initiated Designism as a panel discussion in
which creative professionals in design, branding, writing and advertising
debated the role and responsibility of their fields to instigate and power
change, to motivate the public to shift paradigms or take direct action in
society.

The first Designism, says Executive Director Ami Brophy, ³tapped into a
great desire among participants to take action from within their fields².
Hence Designism 2.0.

ACTIVISM FROM A DESIGNER¹S POINT OF VIEW:
In 2005, Milton Glaser decided to re-designate himself as a
³Designer/Citizen². In an essay written during the UN World Summit, he
declared, ³There has been no better time for all of us to assume this role.
We are all at risk, but we can choose how to react to our circumstances. We
can reject the passivity and narcissism that leads to despair, and choose to
participate in the life of our times. Things have changed and there is much
work to do.²

Every design publication and blog has asked its readers and its editors to
think about how to ³go green² or direct their abilities toward the
challenges that face humankind today. This event gives us a chance to act,
to interact, to trade ideas, and to make working relationships that will
answer the important questions.
