Y SIN EMBARGO magazine

Avatares de la vida. Ninots de UU, Miguel Ruibal, fernandoprats, Nirvana SQ, Leonie Polah, Brancolina, Thomas Hagström, Anna Christina, Thierry Tillier, Ezequiel Ruiz

Seven years of a periodical and independent publication is perhaps both necessary and long enough a time to verify or put into practice a set of ideas, wishes and adventures. YSE closes a cycle, but doesn’t close (neither literally nor metaforically). Seguiremos, pero seremos otros.

On air: YSE #29, LAST/s.

Dialogues
Charles J. Stivale: An overview of the eight hour interview of Deleuze by Parnet (1996), presented by Charles J. Stivale. (1997). A three-part overview of the eight-hour series of interviews between Gilles Deleuze and Claire Parnet that were filmed by Pierre-André Boutang in 1988-1989. Destined to be broadcast only after Deleuze’s death, these interviews were shown with his permission on the Arte channel between November 1994 and spring 1995, i.e. during the year prior to his death.
I’ll have to wander all alone
Jacques Derrida: Too much to say, and I don’t have the heart for it today. There is too much to say about what has happened to us here, about what has also happened to me, with the death of Gilles Deleuze, with a death we no doubt feared (knowing him to be so ill), but still, with this death here (cette mort-ci), this unimaginable image, in the event, would deepen still further, if that were possible, the infinite sorrow of another event. Deleuze the thinker is, above all, the thinker of the event and always of this event here (cet evenement-ci)…
Deleuze and Pop Music
Ian Buchahan: Rightly or wrongly, Deleuze has been labelled a snob for his high-brow taste in music, art and literature. For the most part, Deleuze depicts the popular as the undesirable other, or worse, an enormous homogenising machine depriving art of its place and value in contemporary society. In this respect, at least, Deleuze is very much like Adorno, utterly modernist.

Rhizome@Internet

Robin B. Hamman:
In A Thousand Plateaus : Capitalism and Schizophrenia, Deleuze and Guattari describe the characteristics of their concept of the rhizome. These principles are presented briefly here so that the reader of this paper can get a sense of the whole theory before we engage in the task of applying each principle to the Internet. The first two principles of the rhizome are the “principles of connection and heterogenity.” These two principles require that any point of a rhizome system can be connected to any other point. In other words, the rhizome is not hierarchical in structure. It is the anti-hierarchical

The Simulacrum According to Deleuze and Guattari
Brian Massumi: A thing, write Deleuze and Guattari, “in order to become apparent, is forced to simulate structural states and to slip into states of forces that serve it as masks. . . . underneath the mask and by means of it, it already invests the terminal forms and the specific higher states whose integrity it will subsequently establish.” Resemblance is a beginning masking the advent of whole new vital dimension. This even applies to mimickry in nature. An insect that mimics a leaf does so not to meld with the vegetable state of its surrounding milieu, but to reenter the higher realm of predatory animal warfare on a new footing. Mimickry, according to Lacan, is camouflage. It constitutes a war zone. There is a power inherent in the false: the positive power of ruse, the power to gain a strategic advantage by masking one’s life force.

Richard Pinhas / Heldon
Richard Pinhas: Composer, guitarist and electronics innovator Richard Pinhas is recognized as one of France’s major experimental musicians. A pivotal figure in the international development of electronic rock music, Pinhas’ stature in France is analogous to Tangerine Dream’s in Germany: the father figure of an entire musical movement. The pioneering, aggressive music produced by his band Heldon during the 1970s, fusing electronics, guitar and rock, heralded the industrial and techno to come and remains today vital and unsurpassed.

Web Deleuze (in French)
Richard Pinhas: This site is dedicated to the thought of Gilles Deleuze. It is constructed by Richard Pinhas to become itself a kind of pure processor. It contains the resumption of the transcription of many courses, in particular the années 1982-1985, on the PLAN, cinema, Bergson, image, and the inclusion of audio pieces to the format mp3.

Deleuze and Guattari Course
John Protevi: A brilliant resourch, packed with Lectures and Deleuze and Guattari Links. John Protevi is a member of the Department of French Studies Louisiana State University USA.

Thinking The Unthinkable: Time, Cinema and the Brain.
Colin Gardner:The multidimensional map that links cybernetics, cognitive neuroscience and art commences early on in the history of cybernetics.

Rhizomes Journal
Cultural Studies in Emerging Knowledges: “Rhizomes oppose the idea that knowledge must grow in a tree structure from previously accepted ideas. New thinking need not follow established patterns.Rhizomes promotes experimental work located outside current disciplines, work that has no proper location. As our name suggests, works written in the spirit of Deleuzian approaches are welcomed but not required. We are not interested in publishing texts that establish their authority merely by affirming what is already believed. Instead, we encourage migrations into new conceptual territories resulting from unpredictable juxtapositions.”
